Twin Arch Motel Makeover Set

2 min read

Mark Zweig is getting his shot at the Twin Arch Motel in Fayetteville.

Zweig bought the motel for $150,000 and plans to demolish most of the existing structures and build an upscale apartment complex on the site at 521 N. College Ave. Zweig, through his Mark Zweig Inc. of Fayetteville, is known for his renovation projects.

“I have my work cut out for me,” Zweig said. “There’s huge public support for it. It’s a great location. It has got a lot of nostalgia. It’s a Fayetteville institution.”

Zweig said his design plans for the project aren’t finalized, but his vision includes 14 units that include townhouses and a swimming pool.

The property covers about a half acre and includes a vacant lot next door that Zweig also bought and plans to use as a parking lot.

Zweig said the historic property used to have a fiberglass deer out front, and he is going to bring the deer back. He sees the complex as a perfect spot for professionals, such as doctors affiliated with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences campus a few blocks away.

“It’s going to be very modern and very cool,” Zweig said. “We’re not aiming at the student market. We’re going to keep the name, too, even though it makes absolutely no sense. There’s no arch, let alone two.”

Zweig hopes to begin work on the property within 90 days and expects

construction will take about nine months.

Zweig bought the property from Community Partners Development LLC, led by Thomas Harding and Garrison Roddey, who once had similar plans to convert Twin Arch into apartments.
