Longtime Tyson Foods executive Joe Lloyd has been named president and CEO of The Jones Center, a 220,000-SF recreation, community and event center in Springdale.
Lloyd assumes leadership of the venue as it reimagines its 50-acre campus with the support of a Design Excellence Grant awarded by the Walton Family Foundation. Over the past four years, the nonprofit organization has worked with a design team to craft a master plan for the facility.
In news release, The Jones Center said Lloyd will be tasked with broadening the revenue potential and community impact of the nonprofit.
“The Jones Center is one of the great pillars of Northwest Arkansas and I am honored to carry on the Jones’ vision for these facilities,” Lloyd said in a statement. “Our staff and board are committed to amplifying Bernice’s legacy as we cultivate a dynamic, regional institution serving the current and future needs of our community.”
The Jones Center was founded in 1995 by Springdale philanthropist Bernice Jones, the wife of Jones Truck Lines founder Harvey Jones. The center features northwest Arkansas’ only indoor ice arena, a fitness center, an indoor pool complex, a gymnasium with an indoor track and a conference center.
The center hosts arts, cultural and STEM-based programming, as well as classes for youth in sports, recreation and education. The campus features a bike park and pump track and provides housing and collaborative space for dozens of regional nonprofits.
Lloyd is vice president of technology at Tyson Foods and the company’s former chief ethics and compliance officer. He has worked for the company for more than 30 years.
In the nonprofit sector, he has served on the board of United Way of Northwest Arkansas and the Downtown Springdale Alliance.
He graduated from the University of Arkansas.
