UAMS Picks Dr. Kevin Sexton to Lead BioVentures

1 min read

UAMS has named Dr. Kevin Sexton as president of BioVentures, its technology licensing office and business incubator.

Sexton, an associate professor in the College of Medicine Department of Surgery, has been the interim director of BioVentures since 2021. He took over after the death of Nancy Gray, who had led BioVentures since 2015.

Sexton brings expertise in informatics and software that he hopes will help BioVentures expand technology licensing capabilities and bring more research developments to the market.

“We want discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship to become part of the campus DNA,” Sexton said in a news release.

Sexton is also co-director of the Health Sciences Innovation and Entrepreneurship (HSIE) Training Program for UAMS post-doctoral fellows, associate director of the UAMS Institute for Digital Health & Innovation, and associate chief clinical informatics officer for Innovation, Research and Entrepreneurship.

Sexton joined UAMS in 2015 as a trauma surgeon, according to the release. Much of his work has been investigating new software systems for UAMS, analyzing how best to integrate systems and examining how the electronic health record can be used for research.

UAMS said Sexton has multiple patents in progress. Previous patents include an intravenous sensor that shows whether a catheter is properly in a patient’s vein.
