USA Truck Inc. of Van Buren appointed Susan Chambers to its board of directors.
Chambers, 58, retired in July after nine years as chief human resource officer for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville. She joined Wal-Mart in 1999 and served in a variety of executive positions. She served in executive positions for 14 years at Hallmark Cards Inc. of Kansas City.
Chambers is the second appointee to the company’s board this year, joining retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Barbara Faulkenberry, who was named to the board in January.
“Susan’s vast experience as a senior officer of one of America’s iconic companies will assist us in areas that are critical to the success of our company — most notably driver and staff retention, as well as leveraging technology to enhance operational effectiveness,” USA Truck Chairman Bob Peiser said in a statement.
“Each of these new directors brings unique perspective and operational experience that will be very helpful in guiding our newly strengthened management team as it works to continue transforming the company, strengthening its position as a capacity solutions provider and driving return on invested capital.”
Chambers will effectively replace board member James Simpson III, whom the company announced would retire after the USA Truck’s annual meeting in May.
Faulkenberry will replace Richard Beauchamp, who has announced he will not stand for reelection to the board.
