Wal-Mart Driver Gets Award from Arkansas Trucking Association

1 min read

Ken Jones is proud of his blue truck.

Jones, 59, has been driving for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville for almost 30 years. During that time, Jones has covered 3.7 million miles without a single accident, for which he has been rewarded with a blue truck by Wal-Mart to signify his safety record.

Now he has a plaque to go with it. The Arkansas Trucking Association gave its Driver of the Year award at its annual conference Wednesday in Hot Springs.

“It means a lot,” said Jones, whose home base is Searcy.

Early in his career, Jones drove a tow truck and saw his share of wrecked vehicles that he had to remove. Those memories help Jones focus on safety when he’s behind the wheel.

“When you work wrecks, you see what happens,” Jones said. “It sticks in your mind. That could be my family, your family.”

Jones thanked his wife, Phyllis, and his family at the conference.

“I’m 59. I’ll drive as long as my health holds,” Jones said. “Or until she tells me to quit.”
