The Alice L. Walton School of Medicine in Bentonville announced it had received candidate status for accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.
The LCME’s recognition is part of the school’s multi-year accreditation process. The school aims to be approved to accept students for its first year of operations in 2025.
The school also announced three staff hires: Sharon Bridges was named general counsel; Will Jemison was named chief of staff; and David Roos was named assistant dean of student affairs.
“With these new staff appointments and the update in our accreditation status, we are one step closer to training physicians of the future,” said Dr. Sharmila Makhija, the school’s founding dean and CEO. “These passionate and dedicated leaders will add to our already dynamic team by driving operational planning, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing the student affairs department to help us build a thriving learning environment.”
