The past continues to haunt Webb Hubbell.
Hubbell, the former associate U.S. attorney general, chief justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court, pleaded guilty in the 1990s to two felonies related to overbilling clients while a partner at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock.
He spent nearly two years in a federal prision camp in Maryland. And in 1996, he signed a consent judgment agreeing to pay Rose $300,000 for defrauding the firm and its clients. He had arranged a payment plan, but didn’t stick to it.
As of July, Hubbell still owed nearly $240,000 plus interest.
The judgment already has been renewed once in 2006 for 10 years. And just before that expired, the firm asked the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas for another 10-year extension for the judgment and lien. The request was approved.
The judgment now will be in place until Oct. 28, 2026.
