What $100 Means in Arkansas: A State-by-State Analysis

1 min read

The Tax Foundation, a nonprofit that studies tax policy, last month published a map showing the real value of $100 in each state in the country.

“Prices for the same goods are often much cheaper in states like Missouri or Ohio than they are in states like New York or California,” the foundation said. “As a result, the same amount of cash can buy you comparatively more in a low-price state than in a high-price state.”

The foundation, based in Washington, used price data for 2013 collected by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Arkansas is among those low-price states, with $100 worth $114.29. The foundation notes that states with higher nominal incomes generally have higher price levels.
