The COVID-19 pandemic hit the commercial gaming industry in the United States hard in 2020, causing industry revenue to plummet 31.3% from 2019 to $30 billion, according to the American Gaming Association’s State of the States report.

It was the first market contraction since 2014 and the lowest total since 2003, said the report, issued in May 2021 and the latest with full-year figures.

Commercial casinos nationwide experienced 45,600 lost business days because of pandemic-related closures, or approximately 27% of potential operating days.
