Caryl M. Stern
Caryl Stern is stepping down as the executive director of the Walton Family Foundation of Bentonville, the foundation announced Wednesday.
Stern, 64, was hired in September 2019 to replace Kyle Peterson and started at the nonprofit the following January. She had been CEO of UNICEF USA for 12 years and had served for nearly two decades in executive positions at the Anti-Defamation League.
Annie Proietti, the foundation board’s chair, said a national search for a new executive director has started and Stern will continue to serve through the transition to a new leader.
“It has been an honor to work alongside Caryl for three years,” Proietti said. “I am extremely grateful for her steady hand and strong leadership.”
In the news release by the foundation, Proietti related that Stern had decided to step down because “[I]t is time to contribute to the issues I care about without the daily administrative responsibilities that come with this role.”
