2 min read

Diamond State Networks has a new chief executive.

The Jonesboro fiber-optic network named interim CEO Jill McDaniel to the top spot officially on Friday.

Before taking the interim post in August, McDaniel had been chief operating officer for the telecommunications company.

Diamond State has been increasing fiber connectivity for customers across the state in partnership with Arkansas’ electric cooperatives.

Board Chair Mitchell Johnson said the company was pleased to put McDaniel in charge of its mission. “With deep expertise in the telecommunications industry and a strong background in strategic growth, she will drive our mission forward and enhance our impact throughout Arkansas for our stakeholders,” Johnson said.

Long Experience

An Arkansas native, McDaniel has 25 years of experience in telecommunications, including leadership roles at Irby Utilities, Ritter Communications and Allo Communications. For the past nine years, she has focused on advancing rural broadband initiatives and is a passionate advocate for broadband accessibility.

“I’m honored to lead Diamond State Networks and work alongside such a dedicated team,” McDaniel said in a company announcement. “Our focus will remain on providing top-tier middle-mile infrastructure to our members and partners, empowering them to deliver reliable, high-speed internet to communities across Arkansas. As we expand our network, we’re committed to ensuring that every Arkansan has access to the digital tools they need to thrive.”

DSN is owned by 14 of the state’s 17 local electric cooperatives. They have partnered to make the largest fiber-optic broadband investment in the state’s history. The mission is to build a $1.8 billion network across nearly 70% of the state. McDaniel will guide DSN’s ongoing commitment to scaling up the network. The network will deliver critical middle-mile connectivity, the company said. The challenge includes enabling greater broadband access to remote areas and supporting last-mile services across the state.
