Philip Tappan
Simmons Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Simmons First National Corp. of Pine Bluff, said Thursday that it has hired Philip A. Tappan as executive vice president of financial services.
In the position, Tappan will oversee Simmons First Trust Co., Simmons First Investment Group and Simmons First Insurance Services Inc.
“We are extremely excited to announce the addition of Philip Tappan to the executive team at Simmons Bank,” Marty Casteel, chairman and CEO of Simmons Bank, said in a news release. “He brings us experience as an investment banker combined with many years of relevant executive level management and leadership skills.
“Mr. Tappan’s leadership and vision will play a vital role in the continued integration of our growing financial services business lines into our core banking products and services,” Casteel said.
Tappan is the managing partner of Tappan Land & Water Company, which owns a majority interest in Purple Cow Restaurants and natural resource properties throughout central Arkansas.
He was previously as president and COO of Quality Foods Inc. of Little Rock and president and CEO of Quality Performance Food Group of Richmond, Virginia. He is a member of the Simmons Bank board of directors and previously served on the board of directors for Delta Trust & Bank, which Simmons First National Corp. purchased last year.
Tappan’s wife, Gina, is the sister of Debbie Makris, wife of Simmons First National Corp. CEO George Makris Jr. Gina Tappan and Debbie Makris are daughters of of the late Don Kirkpatrick, who founded Quality Foods and sold it in April 2002 to Performance Food Group for $95 million.
