CHI St. Vincent of Little Rock on Wednesday officially announced Dr. Peter Emanuel as its new director of oncology services.

Arkansas Business reported in July that Emanuel was headed to CHI St. Vincent after 11 years as director of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He announced his resignation from UAMS in May.

"Dr. Emanuel is recognized worldwide for his scholarship, his leadership and his commitment to excellence," Chad Aduddell, CEO of CHI St. Vincent, said in a statement. "He is an asset to the CHI St. Vincent team and to this community, and we are glad to have him as we work to grow the oncology program at CHI St. Vincent and provide our patients with excellent and compassionate care."

Emanuel will begin taking new appointments "in late September," according to CHI St. Vincent. His clinic will be located in the Parkview Building on the Infirmary campus at 1 St. Vincent Circle, Suite 220.

Emanuel's salary at UAMS was $500,000. His departure was among several at UAMS since January.

Emanuel, a Wisconsin native, attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin and completed an internship and residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. After a fellowship in hematology/oncology at UAB, he was a professor in the Department of Medicine, Genetics and Biochemistry at UAB. He was acting director of UAB's Comprehensive Cancer Institute before going to UAMS in 2007.

At UAMS, Emanuel oversaw the addition of the Cancer Institute's 12-story research and treatment tower, which opened in 2010.
