You might think Arkansas’ advertising world is a fiercely competitive, backbiting place, but it’s actually an overlapping family. Just as relatives radiate love, support and respect, they also endure fights, feuds and bitter jealousies.
The American Advertising Federation has promoted fellowship and career development in Little Rock for a century, but has been largely dormant for the past several years. Now it has awakened with a new name, AdClub LR, and a new website, AdClubLR.org. Leaders have lowered the individual membership rate to $150 and introduced agency group memberships that vary by the size of the firm.
“As everyone knows in the age of computers, usually the best thing to do when something stops working is to turn it off and turn it back on again,” said Ross Cranford, elected as the club’s new president a few weeks ago. “This is the advertising reboot of 2017.”
Other leaders include Vice President Sandra McGrew of Vines Media, Treasurer Ramanda Cody of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, membership chief Sam Cooper of Lamar Advertising and communications and programming leader Arlton Lowry of Few. Jason Rogers of Mass Enthusiasm and Jon Hodges of the Sells Agency will lead an effort to revive the American Advertising Awards, and Meaghan Ferneau of Mangan Holcomb Partners will be AD 2 president. Program leaders are Wade McCune of CJRW, Bill Fitzgerald of Thoma Thoma and Gerry Bruno of CenterRock Advertising. Past president is Bill Brookshire of Stone Ward. Entries are now being sought for the Addys. Online registry is available, and the deadline is Feb. 20.
