Vehicle miles traveled in the United States exceeded 3.2 trillion miles in 2016, a record, according to the Federal Highway Administration. It was the fifth consecutive year of increased mileage on public roads.
The record “underscores the demands facing America’s roads and bridges, and reaffirms calls for greater investment in surface transportation infrastructure,” the agency said.
